90-Day Reporting in Thailand. For many, Thailand beckons with its beautiful beaches, delicious cuisine, and rich culture. But if you plan to stay in the Land of Smiles for longer than 90 days, there’s an important regulation you need to be aware of: 90-day reporting.
What is 90-Day Reporting?
90-day reporting is a requirement for foreigners who hold a temporary stay permit and plan to stay in Thailand for more than 90 consecutive days. This applies to a variety of visa types, including those for retirement, work, marriage, and education. In essence, it’s a way for Thai immigration to keep track of foreign residents and ensure they’re adhering to their visa conditions.
Who Needs to Do 90-Day Reporting?
This applies to almost all foreigners staying in Thailand for longer than 90 days, with a few exceptions. Tourists with visas valid for less than 90 days are exempt. However, if a tourist overstays their visa, they’ll be subject to 90-day reporting regulations upon exceeding the 90-day limit.
How to Do 90-Day Reporting
There are two ways to complete your 90-day report:
- In Person: Visit your local immigration office with the required documents, which typically include your passport, visa, completed TM.47 form (available at the office), and proof of your current address (such as a rental agreement or utility bill).
- Online: For those who have already completed an in-person report at least once, Thailand offers a convenient online reporting system. You’ll need to register for an account on the Immigration Bureau website and then submit your details electronically.
Important Dates and Fines
The 90-day reporting window is flexible. You can report your residence within 15 days before your 90 days are up or within 7 days after. Missing this window can result in a fine of up to 2,000 baht (approximately $60 USD).
Remember:
- If you leave Thailand and re-enter, the 90-day clock restarts upon your return.
- Always keep your documentation updated, including your passport and visa.
- Not complying with 90-day reporting can lead to difficulties renewing your visa or even deportation.
Staying informed and compliant with Thailand’s 90-day reporting requirements will ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay in this beautiful country.
